Box vs hammer-shutter vs cone exhaust fans: poultry tunnel ventilation selection guide
Choose Box (GPF), Hammer-shutter (ZHF), or Cone (GKF) exhaust fans for poultry tunnel houses. Catalogue m³/h on the exhaust-fans page; confirm on quotation.
Wall-mounted negative-pressure exhaust fans for poultry houses, swine barns, greenhouses, and workshops come in three types on the EcoHarvest exhaust page: box, hammer-shutter, and cone. They are not cattle-barn hanging box fans. This guide helps you name the right type before you inquire.
Catalogue air volumes in m³/h for Box (GPF), Hammer-shutter (ZHF), and Cone (GKF) are listed on the exhaust fans page. Confirm airflow and power on the written quotation for your opening and static pressure. This site does not add a separate CFM column, lab static-pressure tables, or prices.
The three catalogue types
- Box (GPF) — square-wall box housing. Inquiry must name Box, plus frame material, blade, coating, voltage, and opening size.
- Hammer-shutter (ZHF) — square-wall exhaust with the hammer-shutter style on this site. Frame and blades are galvanized sheet as listed on the exhaust page.
- Cone (GKF) — wall exhaust with a discharge cone. Two housings: galvanized steel or FRP. Not the same as box or hammer-shutter; pick Cone when you need the discharge-cone style.
Pick one on the exhaust page. The inquiry must name Box, Hammer-shutter, or Cone.
Selection comparison
Relative engineering fit only. Airflow efficiency and static-pressure capability are confirmed on quotation against your opening.
| Dimension | Box (GPF) | Hammer-shutter (ZHF) | Cone (GKF) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Wall / housing form | Square-wall box housing | Square-wall with hammer-shutter style | Discharge-cone style; galvanized or FRP housing |
| Airflow figures (relative) | Catalogue m³/h bands for GPF / ZHF / GKF are on the exhaust-fans page. Confirm airflow and power on the written quotation. No separate CFM column on this site. | ||
| Static-pressure fit | Match the fan to your opening and system resistance (pads, traps, ducting) on the quotation. This site does not publish lab static-pressure tables. | ||
| Sealing / shutters / wind | Box face/guard as specified for the Box style | Hammer-shutter style is the defining shutter form for ZHF | FRP cone: shutter on the room side; galvanized cone as specified for that housing |
| Maintenance effort | Keep guards and shutters clear of dust and litter. Material choice (galvanized vs FRP on cone; stainless options on box) follows corrosion and wash-down needs — not a public maintenance-cost table. | ||
| Best-fit use area | When the house brief names a square-wall Box opening | When the brief names Hammer-shutter / ZHF | Tunnel-wall exhaust when a discharge cone is required; choose galvanized or FRP for corrosion / wash-down |
Tunnel system context
In a poultry house tunnel ventilation system, exhaust fans and evaporative cooling pads are specified as one pad-and-fan design. On dark-out houses, light traps are added at the fan end. Fan type (Box, Hammer-shutter, or Cone) is still named explicitly on the inquiry.
What to email for a quotation
Opening size; climate; livestock or crop type and stocking; target airspeed; pad and light-trap pressure if known; country; voltage and frequency; and whether you need Box, Hammer-shutter, or Cone.

FAQ
What is this fan for?
Wall-mounted negative-pressure exhaust for poultry houses, swine barns, greenhouses, and workshops. Three wall-exhaust types: box, hammer-shutter, and cone. Not a cattle-barn hanging box fan.
Do you publish CFM tables?
Catalogue air volumes in m³/h for Box (GPF), Hammer-shutter (ZHF), and Cone (GKF) models are listed on the exhaust-fans page. Confirm airflow and power on the written quotation for your opening and static pressure. This site does not add a separate CFM column, lab static-pressure tables, or prices.
Can I buy a standard-size set?
Yes. Catalogue sizes in the GPF, ZHF, and GKF tables can be supplied as standard sets. Custom opening, voltage, or material is quoted to the house.
